justify;\">Touchant pr\u00e8s de 5% des personnes de plus de 65 ans, et au total 25 millions de personnes dans le monde, <strong>la <span style=\"color: #035ac3;\">maladie d\u2019Alzh<span style=\"color: #035ac3;\">eimer<\/span><\/span><\/strong> est, au d\u00e9but du XXI\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, l\u2019une des maladies les plus fr\u00e9quentes. On ne sait aujourd\u2019hui ni pr\u00e9venir la maladie, ni arr\u00eater son \u00e9volution. Depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es, la maladie d\u2019Alzheimer suscite de nombreuses recherches porteuses d\u2019espoir. En particulier, ces recherches sugg\u00e8rent l\u2019existence d\u2019un <strong>lien possible entre les maladies vasculaires et la maladie d\u2019Alzheimer<\/strong>, lien qui pourrait avoir des implications pour la pr\u00e9vention de la maladie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Au cours des derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies, la pr\u00e9vention a eu un r\u00f4le majeur dans le recul consid\u00e9rable des maladies vasculaires cardiaques (infarctus du myocarde) ou c\u00e9r\u00e9brales (accident vasculaire c\u00e9r\u00e9bral). Est-il envisageable, dans un futur proche, de voir, de la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on, r\u00e9gresser la maladie d\u2019Alzheimer ? Quelles sont les pistes pour y parvenir ? Comment identifier les personnes qui sont les plus \u00e0 risque de d\u00e9velopper cette maladie pour pouvoir leur proposer des mesures de pr\u00e9vention, si on en disposait ? Ces questions ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019origine de l\u2019\u00e9tude des Trois Cit\u00e9s (3C), lanc\u00e9e en 1999.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La maladie d\u2019Alzheimer appartient aux <strong>maladies dites \u00ab neurod\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ratives \u00bb<\/strong>. Elle n\u2019est donc pas une maladie vasculaire. <strong style=\"color: #035ac3;\">L&rsquo;objectif de cette \u00e9tude est d&rsquo;\u00e9tudier lien qui relie alors la maladie d\u2019Alzheimer et les affections vasculaires et les facteurs g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques qui peuvent influencer la fr\u00e9quence des maladies c\u00e9r\u00e9brales li\u00e9es \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e2ge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En fait, comme l\u2019ont sugg\u00e9r\u00e9 plusieurs \u00e9tudes, <strong>des facteurs vasculaires pourraient contribuer \u00e0 l\u2019apparition ou l\u2019aggravation des sympt\u00f4mes de la maladie d\u2019Alzheimer<\/strong>. Ces \u00e9tudes ont montr\u00e9, par exemple, que l<strong>\u2019hypertension art\u00e9rielle ou l\u2019ath\u00e9roscl\u00e9rose<\/strong> (apparition de d\u00e9p\u00f4ts &#8211; les plaques d\u2019ath\u00e9rome- sur les art\u00e8res) pourraient \u00eatre associ\u00e9es \u00e0 un plus grand risque de pr\u00e9senter une maladie d\u2019Alzheimer. Le principe de ce type d\u2019\u00e9tude est de de suivre des personnes qui sont en bonne sant\u00e9, ou du moins qui ne souffrent pas de la maladie que l\u2019on veut \u00e9tudier, ici <strong>la maladie d\u2019Alzheimer<\/strong>, pendant plusieurs ann\u00e9es. Le temps passant, certains de ces individus vont \u00eatre atteints de la maladie d\u2019Alzheimer. En comparant les caract\u00e9ristiques initiales des personnes dont les performances cognitives n\u2019ont pas d\u00e9clin\u00e9 et celles des personnes qui ont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 une maladie d\u2019Alzheimer, les chercheurs peuvent ensuite<strong> identifier des facteurs de risque et des facteurs de protection<\/strong>. La connaissance de ces facteurs permet de concevoir des<strong> actions de pr\u00e9vention<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pour l\u2019\u00e9tude 3C, <strong style=\"color: #035ac3;\">9 294 personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es de 65 ans ou plus<\/strong> ont \u00e9t\u00e9 recrut\u00e9es dans 3 villes : <strong>Bordeaux, Dijon et Montpellier<\/strong> (d\u2019o\u00f9 le nom Trois Cit\u00e9s), par tirage au sort sur les listes \u00e9lectorales.
